Bring two Revolutionary-era references into your collection with the Gadsden Liberty or Death DTOM morale patch. This modern embroidered patch measures 3 × 2 inches and uses hook backing for compatible loop panels.
The history behind Liberty or Death
“Give me liberty, or give me death!” is associated with Patrick Henry's address to the Second Virginia Convention at St. John's Church in Richmond on March 23, 1775. Henry urged preparations for armed resistance as tensions with Britain escalated.
No contemporary verbatim transcript survives. The familiar speech text was reconstructed from recollections and published by William Wirt in his 1817 biography of Henry. Its wording should therefore be understood as a later account, not a word-for-word recording made in 1775.
Gadsden imagery and modern meaning
The Gadsden flag, associated with Christopher Gadsden in 1775, paired rattlesnake imagery with the “Don't Tread on Me” warning. This patch combines that theme with “Liberty or Death”; it is a modern interpretation, not a reproduction of a documented uniform patch from the Revolution.
Today, the combination can express an interest in founding-era history or a personal commitment to liberty. Political interpretations vary, and displaying the design does not establish one particular affiliation.
