How to Attach a Morale Patch: Step-by-Step Guide

Attaching a morale patch is simple — but there are a few things worth knowing to make sure your patch stays put and looks right. Here's everything you need to know.

What You Need

All BuckUp Tactical morale patches come with hook-and-loop Velcro backing already attached. You don't need any tools, glue, or sewing. All you need is gear with a loop panel (the soft side of Velcro).

Step-by-Step: How to Attach a Morale Patch

Step 1 — Find the loop panel on your gear
Look for the soft, fuzzy fabric panel on your plate carrier, backpack, hat, or jacket. This is the loop side of Velcro — it's what your patch will stick to. Most tactical gear has this built in.

Step 2 — Position your patch
Hold the patch where you want it. Consider placement before pressing — once it's on, it's easy to reposition, but it's worth getting it right the first time.

Step 3 — Press firmly
Press the patch flat against the loop panel with firm, even pressure. Run your thumb across the entire surface to make sure all the hooks engage with the loops.

Step 4 — Done
That's it. Your patch is attached. To remove it, peel from one corner and pull back at an angle.

What Gear Can You Put Morale Patches On?

  • Plate carriers — front, back, and shoulder loop panels
  • Tactical backpacks — front pocket loop panels
  • Hats and caps — front panel (if loop material is present)
  • Jackets and vests — chest and shoulder panels
  • Range bags — exterior loop panels
  • Helmets — front and side loop panels

What If My Gear Doesn't Have a Loop Panel?

No loop panel? No problem. You can add one. Self-adhesive loop material is available in strips or sheets and can be applied to almost any surface — fabric, hard cases, helmets, and more. Cut to size, peel, and stick.

How to Keep Your Patch Secure

  • Press firmly — the more surface contact, the stronger the hold
  • Keep the loop panel clean — lint and debris reduce grip over time. A lint roller or stiff brush cleans it up fast
  • Check after heavy use — after field use or washing, re-press your patches to make sure they're fully seated

Can You Wash Gear With Patches On It?

Yes — PVC patches are waterproof and hold up through washing. For best results, remove patches before machine washing and reattach after. Embroidered patches can also be washed but may show wear faster if left on through repeated wash cycles.
