The History Behind the Patch
Designed in 1775 by Continental Army General Christopher Gadsden, the Gadsden flag was one of the first flags carried by the U.S. Marine Corps. The coiled rattlesnake above "Don't Tread On Me" became a symbol of American resolve — peaceful unless provoked, but deadly when pushed. Learn more in our Don't Tread On Me Patch History guide.
